This dataset includes the locations of the monitoring sites of the EMFF 8.3.1 Project.

This dataset consists of findings of the survey work carried out for an Environmental Monitoring System (EMS) - Tender / Advert No. 101 / 2013, which specifies the requirements for an environmental monitoring survey in the SE Aquaculture Zone in Malta. The survey campaign occurred in 2014 following the same methodology used in previous surveys (2006, 2008, 2010). The purpose of the study was to analyse the seabed typology on the basis of grain-size values obtained from the various sediment sampling stations.This data was included as part of the dataset used for one of the co-financed EU LIFE+ Funding Programmes - LIFE BaĦAR for N2K project. Plankton communities constitute an important component of such water column habitats, forming the base of marine foodwebs. The composition of these communities can provide a good indication of the status of pelagic ecosystems, also because plankton responds to anthropogenic pressures, in particular nutrient enrichment. In fact, this dataset includes a list of phytoplankton and zooplankton up to the lowest possible taxonomic scale and includes a count of abundance.

The information gathered is part of Descriptor 1 of Commission Decision 2017/848/EU: specifically D1C6 (pelagic habitats). Phytoplankton communities constitute an important component of such water column habitats, forming the base of marine foodwebs. The composition of these communities can provide a good indication of the status of pelagic ecosystems, also because plankton responds to anthropogenic pressures, in particular nutrient enrichment. Surface chlorophyll-a levels can also be used to characterise pelagic habitats in oceanic waters of the Mediterranean Sea, on the basis of the importance of productivity in describing marine ecosystems and food availability. This dataset includes quantitative information including the density of phytoplankton in cells/l, chlorophyll-a in ug/l and the diatom/dinoflagellate ratio.

This data set shows the location of sampling points for the levels of radionuclides in ambient air. A high volume sampler (HVS) is situated in Bengħajsa and is used to monitor radionuclide levels in total air particulates. Gamma dose rate in monitored continuously in Bengħajsa, Attard, Xemxija and Għarb.
